the 21-day challenge
before i get into it let me start with saying i love timed challenges but also, i suck at them. If you’re like me then, its likely you are a determined individual who loves being tested. maybe you secretly wish that you never quit volleyball in high school because, wow what shape and discipline we were in. just having someone yell determination at us …a weird form of kink i suppose.
now we’re here. 15 years post high school and just trying to get a grip on ourselves and also..maybe feel strong and hot again. it doesnt take long before our internet scrolls on new workout plans offers up a x-day transformation. usually no less than 21 because, “it takes 21 days to break a habit.” bullshit. you know how i know its bullshit? because, once youve start your habits up again post those 21 or more days, you hitting full throttle. the punishment reward system in the brain does not process that you made a 21 day transformation on your habits it simply tested your ability to say no so that you can reward yourself with temporary results and an “overdose” of the sustained item. why? because, we did not acknowledge our habit as a collection of behaviors that requires a system reboot. we ackowledged our habits as a singular action that we must stop repeating…and then everything else will fall into place, right?
no!
